Harmony, not Balance

We’ve been sold a myth: that work–life balance is a fixed state we can achieve, like a perfectly poised set of scales. But let me ask you—does time ever stop?
Of course not.
Life is movement. Seasons shift. Our energy changes. Our roles and responsibilities expand and contract. There’s no pause button. So, how can we expect a static "balance" to work in a dynamic, living world?
The truth is: we are not meant to balance—we are meant to harmonise.
Harmony, Not Balance
When people talk about balance, they often mean equal time, equal energy, equal attention, and a fixed state. But harmony isn’t about a fixed point—it’s about resonance. It’s about different parts of your life sounding good together, even when they’re not equal in volume or tempo.
Think of a piece of music: no two notes are the same, but when played together in the right way, they form a beautiful chord. At times the melody lifts, at others the bassline holds steady—but when they’re in tune, we feel it in our bones. Sometimes life may sound more like kids practising the recorder - a bit squeaky and off-key. Other times it could be soothing and calm, gently guiding you through life. Or perhaps it will sound like an improvised jazz performance - no plan with lots of different stakeholders chiming in, taking their turns a little chaotic but somehow it all works out ok in the end and you discover moments of magic along the way.
The Science of Harmony
(Hint: It’s Not Just Metaphor)
In music and physics, harmony occurs when sound waves vibrate at whole-number ratios to each other. For example, a note vibrating at 440 Hz will harmonise beautifully with another vibrating at 880 Hz—double the frequency.
This resonance creates a feeling of ease and coherence. Our bodies respond to harmonious sound with relaxation and openness; dissonance triggers tension. Harmony literally feels good. It brings order to complexity.
The same is true in life. When our values, actions, and energy are vibrating in resonance with our environment, we feel calm, alive, aligned.
So How Do We Create Harmony?
This is the work I do—as a Harmonist. I guide people to tune into their lives like a musician listens to an instrument.
I use:
Astrology to map the cycles and energies at play in your life.
Archetypes to help you understand the roles and stories shaping your inner world.
Action circles and tools for real-life integration—because insight without motion isn’t transformation.
The melody of your life may shift. There will be crescendos and quieter verses. But harmony is possible, again and again, when you take time to listen, adjust, and play from the heart.
In Closing
Let go of the myth of balance.
Instead, ask: What would life feel like if it sounded like music? What would the title be
And how can you tune yourself-your choices, your boundaries, your energy—so it feels more like harmony? Where are things sounding well, where are things a little off-key?
You don’t need perfect conditions. You just need to begin listening.
